Plan International

Plan International is a humanitarian, child-centered community development (CCCD) organization without religion, political or governmental affiliation that works in over 45 countries. The Global vision which unites Plan around the world is “a world in which all children realize their full potential in societies that respect people’s rights and dignity”. Plan was founded in Spain in 1937 and began working with poor communities in the Dominican Republic in 1987. We currently work in five program areas located in the southwest part of the country (Azua, San Juan, Barahona, Elías Piña and Pedernales) with a Country Office in Santo Domingo. Our programs focuses on: Infant-Juvenile Participation, Education, Child Development, Health, Protection and Children’s Rights, Micro-finances, Environment and Multicultural Relations; they are carried out, implemented and evaluated in participation with children, young people and adults to benefit the quality of their life through facilitating their empowerment to take their own development forward. By working directly with over 30,000 sponsored children throughout 148 communities, we serve a population of more than 120,000 inhabitants. Plan has consultative status with UNICEF and UNESCO.
